I am a special education teacher with a Master’s plus 30 from the University of South Carolina. I am currently working on my 14th year as a special education teacher in a highly specialized classroom in Richland District 2 at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School. Prior to becoming a special education teacher, I worked in a special education classroom for 3 years as a teaching assistant. Making a difference is my passion. My classroom serves a wide variety of areas of disability related concerns. Students typically spend 1 – 6 years in my classroom.
I currently live in the Blythewood area of Northeast Columbia, SC very close to the PAALS facility. I have lived in this area for 18 years. Currently, I work with PAALS’ facility service dog, Roberta. Roberta and I enjoy hiking, swimming, kayaking, and camping.
This is my second time around working with PAALS to get a successor dog once our current working superstar , Roberta, retires in June of 2017. In the nearly 7 years of working with PAALS’ resident RockStar, Roberta, I have witnessed the awesome life-changing power of a PAALS’ facility dog for our students at Lonnie B. Nelson Elem. My fellow staff members, administrative team, parents, P.T.O., students, and I are extremely committed and excited for the opportunity to continue this ground-breaking life-changing facility dog program for our students at Lonnie B. Nelson!
